Navipox BT 1000 Ballast Tanks Epoxy

Navipox BT 1000 Ballast Tanks Epoxy

Product Description

Navipox BT 1000 is a high solid modified epoxy for water ballast tanks, designed to meet SOLAS classification society recommendation for light colors. BT 1000 can resist 125°C dry, 60°C wet, and 90°C wet for a very short time. BT 1000 has very good flexibility, resistance to sea water and cathodic protection. Recommended for protection of ballast water tanks, crude oil tanks, void spaces, cofferdams, bilges, etc.

Conditions : Humidity: below 85% RH. Paint temperature before application: min 10°C, max 30°C. Substrate temperature: min 5°C, max 35°C. Substrate temperature should be at least 3°C above the dew point. Measure air temperature and relative humidity near the substrate.

Drying and Recoating Times (for 300 mic. DFT)

Note: Drying time and minimum overcoating intervals will increase with increasing coating thickness applied. Before re-coating always check the existing film through dry.

Substrate temp. Pot Life Surface Dry Hard Dry Dry to recoat Min. (300 µ DFT) Maximum (1)
5°C 1.5 hrs 20 hours 48 hours 48 hours 5 Days
10°C 1.0 hrs 10 hours 24 hours 24 hours 5 Days
20°C 1.0 hrs 6 hours 12 hours 12 hours 5 Days
30°C 0.5 hrs 4 hours 8 hours 8 hours 3 Days

(1) The surface should be dry and free from contaminants prior to overcoating. When the maximum recoating time is exceeded it may be necessary to roughen the surface to ensure intercoat adhesion. When in doubt, consult your nearest Navimar office.

Surface Preparation

Steel: Oil and grease should be removed by solvent cleaning according to SSPC-SP1 or Navi prep 88 WB cleaner. The steel substrate should be cleaned with fresh, clean water to remove salts, dirt and other contaminants. Remove weld spatter and smooth weld seams and sharp edges as applicable. Best results can be achieved after abrasive blasting: min. Sa2.5 – ISO 8501:1. Remove all loose dirt and abrasive by vacuuming or sweeping. Apply Navipox BT 1000 immediately after the steel has been blasted and the quality of preparation has been approved.

Steel coated with zinc silicate shop primer: The surface should be free of zinc salts. Pretreatment should be carried out according to Japanese Standard SPSS-Pt 3 or SPSS-Ss.

Repair: Corroded areas should be power tool cleaned to ISO-St 3 or blast cleaned to ISO-Sa 2 or better.

Recommended Paint System

A typical system is shown below.

Navipox BT 1000: 2 x 150 µ dft.  or  1 x 300 µ dft.

Sharp edges, corners and weld seams must be stripe coated in order to achieve the specified dry film thickness.
