RECOMMENDED USES

The extraordinary penetrating properties of Naviprime 167 provide a means of reinforcing rusty steel substrates — this in turn ensures the adhesion of subsequent coatings. Recommended in areas where, due to restrictions or economics, blasting or thorough hand cleaning is not feasible. Very effective sealer and/or reinforcement for concrete, masonry or wood surfaces. Excellent sealer for aged ‘white rusted’ zinc surfaces.

Surface Preparation

Naviprime 167 is designed for less-than-ideal surface preparation. However, performance will be improved as surface preparation improves. All oil/grease contaminants, loose rust, loose scale and unsecured old paint must be removed. Best performance will be obtained by a high-pressure water wash before applying Naviprime 167.

Mixing and Thinning

Naviprime 167 is a two-component product supplied in 16 lt. and 4 lt. kits which contain the proper ratio of ingredients. The entire contents of each container must be mixed together. Add the converter portion to the base portion slowly with continued agitation until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. The pot life of the mixture is approximately 4 hours at 25°C. At higher ambient temperatures this time decreases; at lower temperatures it increases. Thinning of Naviprime 167 is not required or preferred.

Application

Good air circulation must be provided during application. In enclosed areas, complete air change circulation is essential.

Conventional spray method: A Graco 800/700 gun with suitable tip and air cap combination atomises the paint well. Fluid pressure should be kept low, around 0.3–0.7 bar at the tip — no more than needed to atomise the paint. Excessive fluid pressure causes overspray problems. There should be suitable moisture and oil traps in the air line. Airless spray: not recommended. Naviprime 167 has low viscosity; thick application should be avoided.

Clean all application equipment with Navi T-10 Thinner. After one coat of Naviprime 167 (35–40 mic.), wait overnight for curing. An additional coat may be needed for very porous surfaces. If Naviprime 167 is still slightly tacky after overnight curing, an additional coat may be applied. Naviprime 167 is normally topcoated with Navipox 235 or similar. Precautions

See the material safety data sheet and product label for complete safety and precaution requirements. As a minimum: avoid skin and eye contact (gloves, goggles, face mask, industrial barrier cream). Provide adequate ventilation during application and until coating is dry. If the product comes in contact with skin, wash with lukewarm water and soap or industrial cleaner. If splashed in eyes, rinse with water for at least 10 minutes and seek medical attention. These materials contain flammable components — keep away from sparks and open flames. No smoking permitted in the area. Read all cautionary notices on containers.
