Surface Preparation

All surfaces to be painted must first be free of grease, oil and moisture and primed with a suitable primer such as Navipox 5A or Navi Inorganic Zinc 304. For best aesthetic results, the primer and intermediate coat should be applied correctly and free of any defects such as runs, overspray or orange peel.

Mixing and Thinning

Navipol 369 is supplied in two separate containers at their own mixing ratio. The entire contents of both components must be mixed together. First stir the base material thoroughly with a mechanical mixer until homogeneous and fluid. It is important to ensure that the mixing tools are dry and that no moisture enters the paint mixture. After the base is thoroughly mixed, slowly add the hardener with continued stirring. After all the hardener is added, continue slow mixing for 15 more minutes. The mixture must be allowed to rest for an additional 15–20 minutes before use (induction time). The pot life is approximately 8 hours at 25°C. Normally thinning is not required; excess thinner negatively affects application and appearance. At very demanding weather conditions, small amounts (5% or less) of T-9 thinner may be added. A small amount of T-17 makes brush and roller application easier. All solvent additions must be made after the two components are mixed.

Application

Conventional spray method (not recommended, only if unavoidable): De Vilbiss MVB510, E or D nozzle, 704 air cap combination atomises paint well. Fluid pressure should be kept low at around 1 bar at the nozzle tip. Excessive fluid pressure causes overspray. Suitable moisture and oil traps should be in the air supply line.

Airless spray application: Graco Bulldog minimum 30/1 ratio airless pump is recommended. Nozzle diameter 0.015″–0.019″, liquid pressure 155–160 Kg/cm². Fluid hose inner diameter minimum 3/8″, length not exceeding 15 m excluding short whip hose. For longer hoses select larger inner diameter. All equipment must be dry.

For touch-up work, Navipol 369 may be applied by brush (good quality, dry and new) or roller (short nap, new). Careful attention must be paid to achieve the required and uniform coating film thickness. Do not apply on wet surfaces or where condensation and fog may form.

Safety Precautions

Read the MSDS Material Safety Data Sheet for all required safety rules and warnings. Navipol has no serious adverse health effects under normal conditions of use. Skin and eye contact must be prevented (gloves, protective goggles, face mask and industrial barrier cream). If paint contacts skin, wash with lukewarm water and soap or industrial cleaner. If splashed in eyes, rinse with water for at least 10 minutes and seek medical attention. As the material contains solvents, keep away from open flames and all sources of ignition during application. Ensure adequate ventilation in the application area; applicators must use face masks.
